Silvina Batakis took over as Minister of Economy on December 12, 2011 before being Treasury Undersecretary since 2009. At the provincial level, she has held various public positions: Cabinet Chief at the Ministry of Economy, Duty-Free Zone Director, Provincial Director of Environmental Economics and Alternative Energies at the OPDS Provincial Organisms for sustainable development, Provincial Director of Economic Studies at the Ministry of Economy and assistant to the Planning Office at the Ministry of Infrastructure.

She is a graduate economist from the National University of La Plata, holds a Master in Provincial Public Finance from the same University and a Master in Environmental Economics for the York University, England.

She has received several awards, grants and scholarships: 2009 Mobilité Programme to participate at the Lyon Renewable Energy Fair granted by the International Relations and Cooperation Rhône-Alpes; the 2001 Chevining granted by the UK Foreign Affairs Ministry; to the Federal Investment Council; from the OAS to do Postgraduate Studies in Chile; and a special distinction at the 30th Conference on Public Finance at the National University in Córdoba.

At the federal level, she has worked as Advisor at the Undersecretary of Relations with the provinces at the Ministry of Economy and consultant at the Productive Study Office, Mining and Industry Secretary.

She is cofounder of the Center for Federal Studies (CEFED), which she chaired for several terms, providing counsel regarding tax policies, productive development and environmental management at the provincial and municipal level.
